STORIES THAT MATTER
ABOUT ISAAC
Isaac Stone Simonelli is a multi-talented reporter and editor working in data journalism, digital journalism and photojournalism. In the last decade, he has led community news teams in producing digital and print stories in the United States and Thailand.
Isaac earned a master's degree in Investigative Journalism from Arizona State University in December, 2021. He started his journalism career a decade ago as a copy-editor and scuba diving columnist with the Phuket Gazette in Thailand. He later took the reins as the managing editor of the weekly, English-language newspaper. As the managing editor of the Phuket Gazette, Isaac transformed the publication to a digital-first mindset and focused resources on enterprise stories.
After nearly five years with the Gazette, Isaac launched "Dice Travels" an independent multimedia project. The premise was to allow die rolls to determine the majority of decisions faced while motorbiking throughout the world on a limited budget for a year.
He returned to the U.S., working a short stint on the copy desk of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner before taking the editor position at the Kodiak Daily Mirror.
As a freelancer, he has written for various publications, including Climbing Magazine, ADVMoto Magazine and Alaska Business Magazine. His work has been published by the Washington Post, Inside Climate News and the Associated Press.
